If you are wondering what to do with all of the paper that comes into your house, this post has some advice on how to keep it all under control!
It can be very hard to keep up with all of the paper that I get. Even with all of the options to go paperless, I still seem to always accumulate a big pile of papers!
THE FIRST PLACE I PUT ALL OF MY PAPER
The simple answer to this question is: In my inbox.
Like most people, I love when things are organized. I always want everything in my house to be in the right place. However, when it comes to paper, I need all of it to be in the right place. Knowing that my papers are in order allows me to feel in control of my life, even if everything else is a mess!
Putting all of the paper I receive in my inbox is the number one way I have managed to keep up with ALL of the paper I get. It is a simple step, but it makes a huge difference!
WHAT DO I MEAN BY “PAPER”
First of all, let’s define what I mean by “paper”. When I talk about “paper”, I am referring to anything that contains paper.

In my case, this includes mail, school papers, children’s artwork, store receipts, bank deposit receipts, magazines, flyers, pamphlets, certificates, business cards, appointment cards, post-it notes, paperwork from the doctor or dentist, bills, etc.

Everyone will have different papers for their own unique situation, but hopefully you get the idea.
THE BENEFITS OF HAVING AN INBOX
There are several benefits to putting all of the papers I get straight into my inbox. However, two reasons stand out the most to me.

1. I never have to make a decision.
Let’s face it, decision making can be hard. I can sometimes go back and forth and spend WAY too much time making a decision. With this method, there is no decision to make. If I get a paper, it goes straight to my inbox where it will be ready for me later.
2. All of my papers are in one place.
It’s nice to have a designated place for putting all of the paper. This way, I don’t have to keep track of where different papers are. I am usually the one dealing with paper in our house. However, if my husband gets a paper, he also puts it in my inbox. This works great for our family, but might not work for everyone.

Putting our paper in the inbox is the first step in the paper organizing process. Obviously all of our paper can’t stay in the inbox forever because it would become an unorganized mess! I will talk about what happens with the paper after it is in the inbox at another time.

Jena, you mean the whole surface of my enormous desk can’t be my “in box”?! My goal for 2019 is to solve my paper problem once and for all! I love that desk in the photo above, under The Benefits of Having an In Box. Needless to say, MY desk does not look like that! #PrettyPintastic Pinned!
