I already talked about the cereal box letters I made for my baby girl’s first birthday party. The theme for the party was Old MacDonald Had a Farm in honor of Julia’s favorite song. Today I am going to show you how I made a cardboard barn to decorate the dessert table.
The supplies I used included:
- Red Tri-Fold Presentation Board
- White Duct Tape
- Rooster Cutout
- 2 Pieces of 12×12 Black Cardstock
- Tape Measure
- Box Cutter
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Double Sided Tape
The first thing I did was draw the shape of the barn on the red tri-fold presentation board using my pencil and tape measure. When I was happy with how it looked, I cut it out with a box cutter. The measurements I ended up using are shown in the picture below.
As you probably guessed, my next step was to add the barn doors using the white duct tape. I first used the tape to create two rectangles for the outline of the doors. After that, I taped a “X” on each door.
To make the barn roof, I cut each piece of black cardstock into three equal lengths. I ended up with 6 total pieces of black cardstock that each measured 12 inches by 4 inches.
I started by taping two of the pieces together at the top of the barn so they formed a point. Then I just layered the next two pieces under the top pieces as I moved down the side of the barn. The bottom pieces hang off of the edge a little. You may have to experiment a little bit to get the look that you want. The roof is attached to the barn with double sided tape.
After the roof was on the board, I added the rooster cutout. I created the rooster cutout using Microsoft word and cut it out.
I could have added some more decorations, such as farm animals or a window. However, I thought it looked pretty good with just the doors and rooster, so I left it alone.
Here it is on the dessert table.
Have a great day!
