I have been working on a baseball nursery for our future little boy. So far, the walls have been patched, sanded, cleaned, taped, and painted.
Our house conveniently came with the baseball room. However, it needed a little work before we could start using it as a nursery. Below is a picture of how the previous owners had the room set up.
It was a great room for an older boy, but it didn’t meet our current needs. Our first step to convert the room into a nursery was to remove the lofted bed from the wall. This left a lot of big holes in the walls.
You may remember that we were in a similar situation when we took down the lofted bed in the girl’s room to make our daughter’s nursery. Our solution was to cover those holes up with shelves. This was because we didn’t have the exact paint that was used originally. It also seemed like it would be difficult to paint around the curvy flower border. You can see the shelves in the picture below.
For this nursery, we decided to fix the holes that were left in the walls after taking the lofted bed down. All of the holes were on the top half of the room, so we only painted that part. The baseball border in this room is straight, so it was easier to tape and paint around.
To get the walls ready for painting, I filled in the holes and then sanded them smooth. I repeated the filling and sanding process to make sure the holes were completely filled in and the walls were smooth. While I was at it, I sanded all of the brown areas of the room with some fine grit sandpaper and a sanding pole because there was a bumpy texture on the walls. It didn’t completely go away, but it definitely got a lot smoother.
After prepping the walls, I taped around the trim and wall border with frog tape. The final step was to apply one coat of brown paint that we had color matched at Home Depot. I had originally planned to do two coats of paint, but I thought it looked good after only one coat.
Check out the closet. It’s twice as big as Julia’s closet, so I will definitely be able to store a lot of baby supplies in there.
I can’t wait to fill the room with furniture and baseball decor! Now I just need to make some more decorating decisions. I have been working on a few projects, so stay tuned to see how they turn out.
Have a great day!
