As I mentioned before, we had a Minnie Mouse birthday party for our daughter. A birthday party isn’t complete without cake (or cupcakes in our case)! Therefore, I made some Minnie Mouse cupcakes for the party!
I had a lot of fun decorating the cupcakes for the Minnie Mouse party. And then I had even more fun eating them!
The supplies I used to make the cupcakes include:
- Cupcake Mix
- Pretty Cupcake Liners (Hobby Lobby)
- Chocolate Icing
- Wilton Decorating Bags
- Scissors
- Star Tip
- Mini Oreo Cookies
- Pink Wilton Candy Melts
- Minnie Mouse Bow Template
- Wax Paper
Prep Work
To save time decorating the cupcakes, I made the Minnie Mouse bows in advance. Then I stored them in a closed container in the refrigerator for a few days until I was ready to use them.
Since I am not very good at drawing, I printed out a template to use for the Minnie Mouse bows. To do that, I found a Minnie Mouse bow image on google images and copied it into Microsoft Word. Then I changed the size and made a bunch of copies of it until I had a page of bows.
Before I melted the candy, I prepared my work space as much as possible. I wanted to be able to make the Minnie Mouse bows as quickly as I could because the candy gets hard as it cools down. This included putting the Minnie Mouse bow template on the table and covering it with wax paper. I also got a decorating bag and a pair of scissors ready.
Next, I melted the candy melts according to the instructions on the package. Basically, you just microwave them in a bowl at half power for a minute, stir, and continue microwaving for 30 second intervals until they candy is smooth and completely melted.
When the candy was melted, I spooned it into a decorating bag and cup the tip of the bag off.
Then I traced the Minnie Mouse bow template on the wax paper as best as I could. It took some practice, but I got better after a few tries!
When the wax paper was full of bows, I put it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to cool off. Then I peeled the bows off of the wax paper and put them in the storage container for later.
Cupcakes
I baked the cupcakes in the pretty pink and white cupcake liners. Then I let them cool completely. This is an important step so that the icing doesn’t melt.
Decorations
I used a decorating bag with a star tip to ice the cupcakes with the chocolate icing.
The Minnie Mouse ears are mini Oreo cookies. I took the Oreo cookies apart and scraped off the icing in the middle so I was only left with the cookies. Then I placed two mini Oreo cookies on the cupcakes to form Minnie Mouse ears.
After that, I placed a candy melt bow in front of the Oreo ears. That’s it!
Have you made any Minnie Mouse desserts? What about Mickey Mouse desserts? Let me know how they turned out in the comments!
Have a great day!
