We finally made it to the final Old MacDonald Had a Farm birthday party post! If you don’t know what I am talking about, I have been sharing some of the details about the decorations I made for my daughter’s first birthday party.
Whew, I made a lot of decorations for Julia’s birthday party. It was a lot of fun, and I hope I inspire you to have an Old MacDonald Had a Farm birthday party. Don’t forget to snag all of the free printables to make it a lot easier!
The first decoration I made was the ONE letters out of cereal boxes and duct tape. I wrapped them in burlap ribbon and used them to decorate the gift table.
My favorite decoration was the cardboard barn that I used to decorate the dessert table. It was really easy to make and made a big impact.
Don’t forget about the popsicle stick picket fence decorations. I made some table center pieces.
And a popsicle stick picket fence cake pop holder. The cake pops were delicious, but it took two tries to get them right. I think I will probably stick to cupcakes in the future.
The farm theme printables I made were also used to decorate. These include cupcake toppers, water bottle wrappers, and an E-I-E-I-O sign. The E-I-E-I-O sign was used to decorate the area near the gift table. I also made farm themed labels for the food, silverware, and drinks.
In addition to all of these decorations, I made a few banners.
The first banner was to display pictures of Julia that were taken each month until she turned one year old. It’s amazing how much she changed in a year! I just printed pictures and cut rectangles of scrapbook paper to make borders for them. Then I folded some strips of scrapbook paper over so they formed loops and taped two of them to the back of each picture. That allowed me to slide the pictures on a piece of twine and hang them on the fireplace mantel.
I didn’t make the next banner, but I modified it a little. The banner was from Hobby Lobby. It matched the farm theme of the party. There were just enough pennants to allow me to put “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” on it. I cut the letters out of white scrapbook paper and then traced them with a black marker so they would stand out. Then I just taped the letters to the pennants.
The last banner was made to decorate the area where Julia ate her cake. I used a pink bandana, twine, and hot glue to make this banner. I cut eight triangles out of the bandana and then glued them to the twine. It was a very easy banner to make.
And since a first birthday party isn’t complete without a smash cake, here you go. I made Julia a giant pink cupcake!
