Julia’s closet doesn’t have a lot of space to hang clothes, so most of her clothes are stored in drawers. I recently re-organized the drawers and added some pretty labels.
She has a total of six drawers in her closet. We are currently using two sets of plastic drawers. We will probably upgrade from the plastic drawers someday, but this is working for us right now.
I made some pretty pink labels in Microsoft Word and printed them out. They are pink to match the room.
I decided to laminate them to make them more durable and so that I could write on them with a dry erase marker. It is easy to wipe the marker off of the laminated paper and re-label if necessary. This is especially helpful when organizing kid’s clothes because the types of clothes change often.
After laminating them, I cut them out and decided which categories to use.
The categories I went with for the six drawers are:
- Sleepers
- Onesies
- Pants
- Shorts/Skirts
- Shoes
- Wrong Size
Since Julia wears a sleeper to bed every night, they are in one of the top drawers. It is easy to grab a sleeper quickly after bath time.
Below the sleepers are the clothes that Julia wears most often during the day. It is convenient to have the onesies and pants in drawers next to each other.
Her shorts and skirts are stored in a drawer on the other side. They will probably be used more now that it is getting warmer outside.
For now, the shoes are in a drawer, but that might change. Julia is learning how to walk, so she might wear her shoes more often going forward. We might want to store her shoes in a more convenient location.
Last, there is a drawer for “Wrong Size”. At first, I had a “Too Small” category. However, I think the “Wrong Size” category will work better because I will have a place to quickly put clothes that she hasn’t grown into yet.
Here is a picture of the newly organized drawers.
By the way, I typically like to use painters tape to attach labels to plastic containers. I have found that it works pretty well and doesn’t leave any sticky reside behind later when the labels are removed. However, I recommend attaching the labels with something a little stronger if your little one is as fascinated with the labels as mine is.
If you want these labels, you can print them below. They could be used for an older girl’s room too. Or wherever else you would like!
How do you organize your baby clothes?
Have a great day!
